Joe was born and raised South of Albuquerque, New Mexico, "Many Moons Ago".
He got out of the U S Navy, in 1965, and shortly thereafter migrated to LA, where he was active in the Anti-War movement, 'VietNam Veterans Against The War' ( "Yeah - I was one of those long haired hippie radicals" ), the Farm-Workers movement, Environmental Activism, and other relevant 'causes of the day'.
He later returned to New Mexico, and went to the University of New Mexico, where he studied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Semi-Conductor Physics, and Computer Science ( "This was back in the days before hand-held calculators, and 'the computer' was the size of K-Mart .. and Yes! I Can use a slide-rule haha" )
More recently, he taught Mathematics, and Self-Defense at several Community Colleges - Taught Wilderness Survival, to private students, ( "I also spent much, MUCH time alone in the wilderness, living off the land, and perfecting my own survival skills" ), but finally decided to 'chuck it all', and 'Head for the hills'.
"I bought 20 acres on a mountain ridge ( sight unseen ), loaded my old International pickup with what I thought I would need, plus my dog, and 2 cats, and moved to 'the land' - in NE Washington."
"I cut some trees and built a small cabin, of sorts, and then sent for my Wife, who had stayed behind in Port Angeles."
Over the next few years He and his Wife 'hacked out a homestead', and A Life, in the wilderness. The property was atop a mountain ridge, a 'Steep' 3 mile 'cat road' to the property - No Electricity, No Water, No Neighbors, "except for the bears and coyotes :)"
Winters were Very Hard - Many feet of snow, and Extreme cold for 4 or 5 months of the year.
"After we had lived there for several years, we sold that property, and moved to another, on a near-by mountain, that already had a 20X20 2-story log cabin, electricity, and eventually a phone line. ( And Yes!! A Computer :)"
"We lived there for several more years, Totally enraptured by the Serenity and Solitude of 'Our Mountain'."
"In 1996 We made a decision to move to the Portland area, to 'Be With, and Care For' my Wife's Mother. We stayed in Portland for the next 5 years, until my Wife's Mother 'passed away', and then We decided that, since neither of us had ever lived by the ocean, We would move to the coast - We looked all along the North Oregon and South Washington coastal areas, and finally settled in Seaside."
"I had been doing 'Call Center Technical-Support' for DELL computers, in Beaverton, and I continued to commute to work, from Seaside 4 days a week, until the commute got to be too depressing."
"Most recently, I have been doing Website Design & Development, Website Hosting, and Computer/Internet Consulting, on a full-time basis."
